Richards Sydney fun facts

Born in 2020
Richards officially became Sydney’s 658th suburb in 2020.

Named after an Aussie pioneer
It’s named in honour of Benjamin Richards (1818–1898), a well-known grazier and entrepreneur who established the Riverstone Meatworks back in 1878.

Rooted in Darug Country
Richards sits on the traditional land of the Darug people, particularly the Wandeandegal clan.

Big land, big dreams
Richards spans 234 hectares – about the same size as Sydney CBD and larger than Centennial Park.

Small start, big future
As of the 2021 Census, only 37 people live in Richards – but it has the potential to house 15,000 residents in affordable accommodation.

Perfectly placed
Richards is located around 45 minutes north-west of Sydney CBD, with ready access to rail, road, and plenty of green space.

Postcode proud
It has its very own postcode: 2765.

Locally developed, nationally backed
The suburb is being developed by Sakkara, one of Australia’s leading property developers.

Business-ready
Richards is also home to the Riverstone Business Park, offering land leases for storage and logistics businesses.

There are other places called Richards – but none quite like this
From tiny towns in Texas and Missouri to a village in Illinois, Richards pops up in a few places around the world. But Sydney’s Richards is unique – the only one masterplanned to grow into a thriving, modern community.
